Many, many hours of fishing and whale watching
This is our family 20 years ago on the Zodiac. He actually took this boat around Vancouver Island once. We spent many, many hours fishing, whale watching, and throwing up in this boat!

Sea-Doo to Alaska
Horseshoe Bay to Juneau and back on a jet ski
In June 2007 Jack left Horseshoe Bay on a Sea-Doo loaded with camping gear and a satellite phone, and pointed it north. Three weeks, a thousand miles of coast, rain, hot tubs, bears, the Coast Guard, and a lot of chocolate later he was home. His daughter Louise kept the family posted.

Africa
Cape Town, sharks, safari and the Mukeu dental clinic
A different sort of adventure: that autumn Jack and Jackie went to South Africa and Kenya. Shark diving in Cape Town, a safari, Mombasa on the Indian Ocean, and the dental clinic in Mukeu where the family had come to help.

Around Haida Gwaii
Three weeks by jet ski to the Queen Charlotte Islands
In the summer of 2010 Jack set out again on the jet ski, this time up the coast and across Hecate Strait to Haida Gwaii, the Queen Charlotte Islands. He carried a SPOT tracker, so for the first time the family could click a link each evening and see exactly where he was.

Around Canada in a Cessna
36 days, 16,300 km, solo, in the Retro Rocket
At 60, freshly retired, Jack bought a Cessna 172 he called the Retro Rocket and decided to fly around the whole country: up the west coast to Haida Gwaii, through the Yukon to the Arctic Ocean, across the Northwest Passage to Resolute and Pond Inlet, down through Iqaluit and Labrador to Newfoundland, then all the way back west. Louise and Joanne kept the blog while he was out of range.
